The implementation of the Free Nutritious Food Program (MBG) in Papua continues to show a positive impact, not only in improving the nutritional quality of the community but also in moving the local economy in various regions.
Through the construction of the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG), the central government together with the Papua Provincial Government expands nutrition fulfillment services to reach remote areas and 3T areas (front, outermost, and backward).
The program targets schoolchildren, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and toddlers as an effort to improve the quality of public health from an early age while suppressing the number of stunting in Papua.
Governor of Papua, Matius D Fakhiri, said that the Free Nutritious Meal Program is a strategic step to prepare a healthy and quality young generation of Papua in the future.
“This program is not only about nutritious food, but about the future of Papuan children so that they grow up healthy, strong, and ready to compete,” said Matius D. Fakhiri when reviewing the construction of SPPG in Supiori Regency, Tuesday (5/26/2026).
In addition to improving the quality of public nutrition, the construction of MBG kitchens is also considered to be able to open up economic opportunities for the local community. The presence of SPPG encourages the involvement of farmers, UMKM actors, and local communities in the provision of food and other operational needs.
Supiori Regency itself is now one of the pilot areas in the development of the program with the construction of 12 SPPG points spread over a number of regions.
This step is proof of the government’s commitment in providing equal access to nutrition services for the Papuan people, especially in areas that have had limited access to health services and nutritious food.
The government hopes that the MBG program will not only create a healthy and strong Papuan generation, but also be able to improve the welfare of the community through sustainable local economic empowerment.
