Central Papua Police Chief Opens 2026 Kapolda Cup Mini Soccer Tournament for Junior High School Students in Mimika

Mimika – Central Papua Police Chief Brigadier General Jermias Rontini officially opened the 2026 Kapolda Papua Tengah Cup Mini Soccer Tournament for Junior High School Students at the Goldstone Mini Soccer Arena on Hasanuddin-Irigasi Street, Pasar Sentral Village, Mimika Baru District, Mimika Regency, on Saturday.

The event was also attended by members of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (Polri), and community leaders, including the Commander of the 20/IJK Brigade, Colonel Agus Rediyanto, the Commander of the Mimika Pioneer Battalion, Police Commissioner Onesimus Umbu Sairo, the Deputy Chief of the Mimika Police, Police Commissioner Junan Plitomo, the Chief of the 1710/Mimika Military District Command, Captain Teguh Heru Poncoh, the Head of the Indonesian Military Training Center (Lemasko), Gerry Okoware, the Director of Mpgelah, Maximus Tipagau, the Head of the Indonesian Youth and Sports Academy (YPMAK), Leonardus Tumuka, as well as teachers and parents.

In his report, the committee chairman, Police Commissioner Onesimus Umbu Sairo, expressed his appreciation to the Central Papua Police Chief and all parties who supported the tournament.

“This event is not only a competition, but also a platform to strengthen brotherhood, foster sportsmanship, and develop the talents of the younger generation in sports,” he said.

He also reminded participants to uphold the values ​​of fair play and respect every referee’s decision during the match.

Meanwhile, Central Papua Regional Police Chief, Brigadier General Jermias Rontini, stated that the tournament was part of the Central Papua Regional Police’s commitment to supporting youth development, particularly in sports.

“Through this tournament, we want to provide a positive space for students to channel their talents and energy in beneficial ways,” he said.

He added that in addition to producing high-achieving athletes, the event is expected to shape the character of the younger generation by fostering discipline, upholding sportsmanship, and fostering a spirit of togetherness.

The Police Chief also expressed his appreciation for the hard work of the committee and all parties involved in ensuring the smooth running of the event.

The tournament opened with a symbolic handover of the ball to the match officials, followed by a kick-off by the Central Papua Regional Police Chief.

In the opening match, SMPN 1 Atap Pomako defeated SMP Al Ishlah 1-0. Meanwhile, in the second match, SMP Taruna Papua won decisively over SMP Yosua 12-0.

The 2026 Central Papua Police Chief’s Cup Mini Soccer Tournament for junior high schools in Mimika Regency was attended by 32 teams from various schools in the region.
