Nabire – The government, through the Ministry of Forestry, continues to strengthen law enforcement efforts against illegal mining activities suspected of causing damage to forest areas in Nabire Regency, Central Papua. The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to preserving the environment while protecting forest ecosystems from unauthorized activities that harm both the community and the state.
A joint task force together with the Forest Area Enforcement Task Force (Satgas PKH) has reportedly carried out a series of operations at several locations suspected of being illegal mining sites. During these operations, authorities conducted data collection, secured affected areas, and confiscated heavy equipment allegedly used for unauthorized mining activities.
The environmental damage caused by these illegal activities has become a serious concern, as it is believed to contribute to deforestation, river pollution, and disruption of the surrounding ecosystem’s balance. The government emphasized that enforcement efforts are not only targeting field operators but also individuals suspected of being the main actors behind the illegal mining operations.
The crackdown is expected to create a deterrent effect while also increasing public awareness about the importance of protecting forest areas as vital sources of life and environmental support for future generations.
The government has also called on all elements of society to support forest protection efforts by reporting any illegal mining activities or other forms of environmental destruction. Through synergy between law enforcement authorities, local governments, and the community, the preservation of forest areas in Central Papua is expected to be maintained sustainably.
