Breaking Through the Darkness, PLN Completes Electrification of 128 Villages in Papua

Jayapura – PT PLN (Persero) Regional Main Unit (UIW) Papua and West Papua has once again demonstrated its commitment to bringing light to remote areas of the country. Through the Additional Assistance Budget (ABT) scheme, PLN is ensuring the smooth running of the 2025 Village Electrification (Lisdes) project and meeting the government’s targets.

As of this quarter, 128 villages in Papua, previously in darkness, are now enjoying the light of electricity.

General Manager of PLN UIW Papua & West Papua, Robert Rumsaur, explained that the completion of the 128 Lisdes programs is being carried out under the command of four Electricity Project Implementation Units (UP2K). The main focus of development this year covers the regions of Papua, West Papua, Southwest Papua, and South Papua.

“Currently, the physical work has been completed, and we are finalizing the administrative processes related to post-project completion rights and obligations. We want to ensure everything is in accordance with existing regulations,” said Robert.

Currently, discussions for the 2026 program have begun with the Directorate General of Electricity (DJK) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. Based on the latest mapping data, significant challenges still lie ahead in the Central Papua and Highland Papua regions. These two regions have the highest need for electricity network development due to their extreme geographic conditions.

“Providing electricity in Papua is a national responsibility entrusted to PLN. Even though we face limited infrastructure and difficult terrain, increasing the electrification ratio is a non-negotiable goal,” Robert emphasized.
