Carstensz Operations Task Force Investigates Armed Criminal Group (KKB) Network in Yahukimo, One Named a Murder Suspect

Yahukimo — The Carstensz-2026 Peace Operations Task Force, in conjunction with the Yahukimo Police Criminal Investigation Unit, continues to intensify law enforcement efforts regarding alleged criminal acts related to the armed criminal group (KKB) network in the Yahukimo area. The investigation was conducted intensively on Sunday (May 3, 2026) at approximately 6:00 a.m. WIT, led by Inspector Muhammad Mirwan, S.Tr.K., Head of the Investigation Unit/Head of the Yahukimo Police Criminal Investigation Unit.

During the investigation, investigators gathered information from two individuals previously arrested on Friday, May 1, 2026, identified as YH (25) and MS alias BS alias MS (23). Both individuals were questioned intensively to uncover their links to the KKB network of the XVI Yahukimo Regional Military Command (KODAP), specifically the Yamue Battalion.

Based on the results of the investigation, YH admitted not being an active member of the group, but had helped deliver logistics to a KKB member with the initials AH. This information is currently being investigated to determine the extent of his involvement in the group’s activities.

Meanwhile, from the investigation of MS, investigators obtained several facts that support the suspicion of his involvement in the KKB network. MS is known to have joined the Yamue Battalion KKB in late 2024 and was involved in the group’s activities in the Yahukimo area. This information was further investigated and compared with other evidence gathered by investigators.

The results of the investigation were supported by the testimony of witnesses and other perpetrators who had already been prosecuted, namely MH alias H and KB alias KG. Based on the investigation, investigators found MS’s connection to the murder of a gold miner with the initials SH on April 7, 2025, as outlined in Police Report Number: LP/A/05/IV/2025/SPKT.SATRESKRIM/POLRES YAHUKIMO/POLDA PAPUA, dated April 7, 2025.

Based on evidence, witness statements, and the results of the case conference, investigators charged MS, also known as BS, with Article 459 of the Indonesian Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 20 Letter C, and Article 458 of the Indonesian Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 20 Letter C, which carries a penalty of death, life imprisonment, or a maximum of 20 years’ imprisonment.

Head of the Public Relations Task Force for the 2026 Carstensz Peace Operation, Senior Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T. stated that the naming of suspects in the case is part of the Cartenz Peace Task Force’s commitment to thoroughly uncovering the crimes that occurred, particularly those related to the armed criminal group (KKB) network in Yahukimo.

“The naming of these suspects is part of our commitment to thoroughly uncovering the crimes that occurred. Every investigative process is conducted professionally and based on strong evidence, so it is hoped that it will provide legal certainty and a sense of justice for the community,” said Senior Commissioner Yusuf to the media on Monday (May 4, 2026).

In addition to naming suspects, investigators are also preparing further legal steps by issuing a Wanted List (DPO) for several other parties suspected of involvement in the murder or having links to the KKB network of Kodap XVI Yahukimo.

The Head of the Cartenz Peace Operation 2026, Inspector General of Police Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.Hum., emphasized that every legal process is carried out professionally, measuredly, and based on valid evidence.

“Any individual proven to be involved in a crime will be prosecuted according to applicable law. This law enforcement is carried out professionally, meticulously, and oriented towards legal certainty and a sense of justice for the community,” emphasized the Head of the Cartenz Peace Operations.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Head of the Cartenz Peace Operations 2026, Senior Commissioner of Police Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., emphasized that the case will continue to be developed to uncover the involvement of other parties in the network.

“Investigators will continue to examine every statement and piece of evidence to trace the possible involvement of other perpetrators. This process is crucial so that law enforcement does not stop at one perpetrator, but is able to uncover the network as a whole,” said the Deputy Head of the Cartenz Peace Operations.

The Cartenz Peace Operations 2026 Task Force ensures that the law enforcement process will continue to be carried out consistently, transparently, and sustainably as part of efforts to maintain security stability and uphold the rule of law in Yahukimo and the Papua region in general.
