Nabire – Joint personnel from Nabire Barat Sector Police, Wanggar Post, and the Samapta Unit of Nabire Police moved swiftly to respond to a security disturbance at the Central Papua Provincial Government office construction site, located in Wanggar Makmur Village, Kaladiri-2, Wanggar District, Nabire Regency, on Tuesday morning (May 5, 2026).
The operation on the ground was led directly by the Head of Nabire Barat Sector Police, First Police Inspector Adam Mahardika, alongside joint personnel reinforced by a Dalmas (riot control) unit from Nabire Police under the command of Samapta Unit Head, First Police Inspector Wido Purwanto. The team arrived at the location at approximately 09:52 WIT after receiving reports of disruptions affecting construction activities.
Based on field observations, the disturbance was triggered by a group of residents who voiced demands to the project contractor regarding the recruitment of additional local workers, along with adjustments to daily wages.
In response, police officers immediately applied a persuasive approach, prioritizing communication and coordination with all relevant parties. Several individuals involved were secured and taken to Nabire Police Headquarters for further guidance and handling.
The police confirmed that the incident resulted in no casualties or material losses. Following intensive mediation efforts, the situation at the construction site gradually returned to normal, allowing project activities to resume.
The swift response by officers in the field was considered effective in preventing further escalation and ensuring the continuity of the Central Papua Provincial Government’s strategic development project.
