Yahukimo — The Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force 2026 once again demonstrated its commitment to maintaining security stability in the Papua Highlands by successfully apprehending a man identified by the initials YB (34), who is suspected of serving as the Deputy Battalion Commander (Wadanyon) of HSSBI Kodap XVI Yahukimo.
The arrest was carried out by joint personnel of the Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force 2026 on Monday (18/5/2026) at approximately 15:42 WIT in the waiting area of Nop Goliat Dekai Airport, Yahukimo Regency.
Following the arrest, authorities conducted further investigations and a search operation at a residence in the Kali Merah area of Dekai City on Tuesday (19/5/2026) at approximately 16:50 WIT. During the search, officers successfully discovered and secured various pieces of evidence, including ammunition of different calibers, sharp weapons, an air rifle, and several components suspected to be related to firearm assembly activities.
The confiscated evidence included 5.56 mm, 9 mm, and .38 caliber ammunition, bullet casings, bayonets, machetes, axes, an iron slingshot, a camouflage-pattern air rifle, as well as several components such as triggers, metal firing mechanisms, hand grips, and communication equipment.
During the case development process, officers also secured another man identified as RK (27), alias KK, who is suspected of having ties to the KNPB network in Yahukimo.
Head of Cartenz Peace Operation 2026, Inspector General of Police Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., emphasized that the operation was part of firm law enforcement measures aimed at preventing potential security disturbances in the Papua Highlands region.
“This action was the result of further developments from investigations conducted by authorities in Yahukimo. The search uncovered a number of ammunition items and materials suspected to be linked to the activities of armed groups,” he stated.
He further stressed that security forces would continue carrying out professional and measured law enforcement efforts to maintain a safe and conducive security situation.
Meanwhile, Deputy Head of Cartenz Peace Operation 2026, Senior Commissioner of Police Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., stated that investigators are still exploring the possibility of the involvement of other networks.
“The team is currently conducting intensive examinations and further investigations into the individuals who have been secured,” he said.
The Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force 2026 reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening preventive measures and law enforcement efforts in order to ensure safety and security for the people of Yahukimo and surrounding areas.
