Nine people are potential suspects in the Lukas Enembe Stadium riot

Jayapura – Papua Regional Police Public Relations Chief, Senior Commissioner Cahyo Sukarnito, stated that nine people are potential suspects in the riot following Persipura’s 0-1 loss to Adyaksa FC at Lukas Enembe Stadium, Jayapura Regency, on Friday (May 8) evening.

The nine people are suspected of throwing objects at officers, assaulting them, damaging vehicles, and looting.

“Investigators are currently continuing to develop the case by collecting video footage, profiling the perpetrators, questioning witnesses and suspects, and coordinating with the public prosecutor to complete the investigation,” said Cahyo Sukarnito in Jayapura on Monday evening.

Previously, Cahyo said, 32 people had been arrested in connection with the riot following the Liga 2 playoff match.

In addition, investigators have also received 28 police reports related to various crimes that occurred in the incident.

“We received 28 police reports related to motor vehicle theft, arson, vandalism, and assault,” said Cahyo.

According to data received by the Papua Regional Police, there were 16 cases of motor vehicle theft, eight cases of arson, and one case each of vandalism, assault, and cell phone theft.

Cahyo added that there were no fatalities in the riots, but nine people were injured.

Meanwhile, material losses included 16 buildings, 11 motorcycles, and 21 cars that were damaged and burned by the mob.
