NABIRE – A strong spirit of nationalism marked the commemoration of Papua Integration Day into the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) in Nabire Regency, Central Papua, on Friday, May 1, 2026. Hundreds of residents from various backgrounds took to the streets to participate in a national ceremony and a lively, orderly Red-and-White parade.
The event was organized by the Regional Leadership Council (DPD) of the Indonesian Red-and-White Front (BMP RI) of Central Papua Province as both a historical reflection and an effort to strengthen the values of unity amid Papua’s diverse society.
Carrying the theme, “Papua United within the Framework of NKRI, United in Diversity, Strong in Nationalism,” the activity was attended by youth groups, traditional leaders, students, and other community members in Nabire. The presence of various elements of society reflected a shared commitment to preserving unity and social harmony.
The series of events began with a joint ceremony featuring respect for national symbols, the delivery of patriotic messages, and calls to continue safeguarding peace and regional stability. After the ceremony, participants proceeded with a city parade while carrying Red-and-White flags and other symbols of nationalism.
Along the parade route, local residents enthusiastically welcomed the participants. People standing on the roadside waved and greeted the procession with great excitement. The atmosphere remained peaceful, orderly, and filled with a sense of brotherhood.
Community leaders attending the event stated that the May 1 momentum is not only part of historical remembrance, but also an important reminder of the need to maintain unity, tolerance, and a collective spirit in developing the region together.
Beyond its historical significance, the event also served as a platform for strengthening ties among residents and the younger generation, reinforcing love for the homeland while raising awareness of the importance of keeping Central Papua safe and harmonious.
The organizing committee expressed appreciation for the public’s participation in maintaining order throughout the event. They hope that the spirit of nationalism reflected in the celebration will continue to grow and become a positive driving force for regional development.
With the successful implementation of the grand ceremony and Red-and-White parade, Nabire once again demonstrated its commitment as a region that upholds unity, peace, and the spirit of diversity within the framework of NKRI.
