Mimika, Central Papua — Sofyan Hadi, S.Pd., Gr., has demonstrated over a decade of dedication to developing education in the coastal area of Pomako, Timika. As the principal of Pomako 1 Elementary School, he not only fulfills his duties as an educator but also serves as a driving force for social change in a community with limited access to basic services.
In a limited environment, Sofyan remains consistent in carrying out the teaching and learning process. He actively engages with the community, communicates with parents, and instills the importance of education as a foundation for the future of the younger generation. These efforts are slowly building a collective awareness in the community about the importance of school for their children.
According to Sofyan, education is the main path to opening opportunities and improving the quality of life, especially for children in coastal areas who often face geographical and social challenges. He believes that the role of teachers extends beyond classroom instruction to building character and hope within the community.
In addition to focusing on education, Sofyan also highlighted the importance of maintaining security and stability in Papua through a humanistic approach. He commended the steps taken in Operation Peace Carstensz 2026, which he considered capable of prioritizing a balance between law enforcement and a persuasive approach to the community.
“The approach taken is evident through social activities, dialogue patrols, and health services. This demonstrates that the presence of the authorities is not only about security, but also about building trust and closeness with the community,” he said.
He also expressed his support for various efforts to maintain a conducive public order and security situation and urged the public not to be easily influenced by unverified information.
“I hope that all members of the community can work together to maintain security and peace. Don’t be easily provoked, and let’s focus on building the future through education, especially for the younger generation in Timika,” he added.
