This forum was considered a crucial opportunity to discuss the future of Papuan indigenous peoples, environmental protection, and environmental sustainability throughout Papua.
The APS III event was attended by several high-ranking state officials and regional leaders from various regions, including the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, the Deputy Minister of Human Rights, the Governor of West Java, and members of the West Java Provincial DPRD. Also in attendance were the Regent of Purwakarta, the Regent of Cianjur, the Mayor of Depok, representatives of the Papua Provincial Government, represented by the Regional Secretary of Papua Province, as well as the Chairman of the Papuan People’s Assembly (MRP), and various other invited guests.
During the event, the Mayor of Jayapura, Dr. Abisai Rollo, SH., MH., hopes this forum will provide serious attention and concrete solutions for the lives of the Papuan people, especially indigenous communities, women, and the younger generation, who are the pillars of the future.
“I hope that through this activity, we can truly pay attention to the lives of the Papuan people, indigenous communities, women, and youth. All of these elements must be a shared concern and discussed in depth in this forum,” said Abisai.
According to him, the current situation in Papua requires concern and concrete action from all parties, especially regarding the threat of environmental damage caused by rampant logging and uncontrolled exploitation of natural resources. He emphasized that Papua’s forests are a valuable asset that must be preserved for the survival of future generations.
“We must unite to save Papua from the various threats that are currently occurring. We must prevent and protect illegal logging together, so that Papua’s forests and land remain sustainable, provide benefits, and maintain their beauty for our future and that of our children and grandchildren,” he emphasized.
Furthermore, Abisai Rollo expressed his highest appreciation for the organization of APS III. He assessed that the forum presented various intelligent ideas and relevant strategic materials, which are predicted to have a broad positive impact on the Papuan people, particularly the residents of Jayapura City.
“I truly appreciate this activity because its concept and implementation are extraordinary. Forums like this are capable of generating strategic ideas, works, and materials that have a very positive impact on the progress of the Papuan people, and more specifically, the people of Jayapura City,” he said.
In addition to serving as Mayor, Abisai, who also holds the traditional role of Ondoafi in Jayapura City, emphasized the importance of viewing and designing development from the perspective of local customs and culture. He emphasized that the existence of the 10 traditional villages in Jayapura City must always be a primary and important consideration in every policy and strategic program implemented in Papua.
“I always emphasize that every development step must be viewed from a cultural and traditional perspective. In Jayapura City, we have 10 traditional villages with noble values. Through activities like APS III, we can ensure that the positive impacts are directly felt by the indigenous communities in these villages,” he explained.
In closing, Abisai reiterated his full support for the implementation of APS III. He saw this forum as further strengthening our shared commitment to discussing and resolving fundamental issues, from protecting the rights of indigenous peoples, preserving forest areas, to efforts to save water resources, the lifeblood of life in Papua for future generations.
“As the Ondoafi of Jayapura City, I strongly support the implementation of this activity. In this third meeting, the discussions have become more in-depth and focused, covering the lives of indigenous communities, how to protect our forests, and how to maintain and preserve our water resources for the sustainability of future generations,” he concluded.
