Jayapura – The Papua Provincial Government is involving religious leaders in maintaining social stability as part of its support for regional development.
This was discussed during a meeting with the Interfaith Harmony Forum (FKUB) and the Papuan Communion of Churches in Jayapura on Monday (May 4, 2026).
Papua Governor Matius D. Fakhiri stated that the role of religious leaders is crucial in maintaining a conducive social environment amidst diversity.
“The role of religious leaders is crucial in maintaining a peaceful atmosphere and supporting development in Papua,” he said.
According to him, the involvement of religious leaders is part of the government’s approach to ensuring development is aligned with the social conditions of the community.
He added that communication between the government and religious leaders needs to be maintained so that various regional issues can be addressed collectively.
“Papua is our shared home, therefore, togetherness must be maintained,” he said.
