Jayapura – The Papua Provincial Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) has urged both gubernatorial candidate pairs to refrain from claiming victory and to wait for the official results from the Papua Provincial General Elections Commission (KPU), Thursday (08/07).
All parties are encouraged to await the official vote recapitulation results of the Papua Gubernatorial Election Revote (PSU), which will be formally announced by the KPU.
This statement was delivered by Yofrey Piryamta Kebelen, Papua Bawaslu Commissioner and Coordinator of the Division for Prevention, Public Participation, and Public Relations, on Thursday (August 7, 2025).
“I urge all parties, especially both candidate pairs for Governor and Vice Governor of Papua, to exercise restraint and avoid claiming victory before the official results are announced by the Papua Provincial KPU,” he said.
Currently, the vote counts for the gubernatorial candidates cannot be officially announced yet, as the election commission is still carrying out a tiered recapitulation process, starting from the polling station (TPS), district-level (PPD), regency/city KPU, up to the provincial KPU.
“We hope everyone respects this process and refrains from making claims that could spark unrest or conflict within the community,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, several polling agencies have released quick count results of the Papua gubernatorial revote. One of them, Indikator Politik Indonesia, published its data on Wednesday evening (August 6, 2025).
From the total of 90 percent of votes counted, the survey shows that candidate pair number 2, Matius Fakhiri – Aryoko Rumaropen, leads with 52.52 percent of the vote, narrowly ahead of the Benhur Tomi Mano – Constant Karma pair, who secured 48.28 percent.
However, Papua Bawaslu emphasized that survey data is not official and cannot be used as a basis for determining the election winner.
