Jayapura, Papua – The Papua Provincial Government held a cheap market as a strategic effort to ease the economic burden of the community and maintain the stability of the price of basic necessities in the market, ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1446 H/2025 M. This initiative is part of a series of social and economic responsibility programs designed so that people can celebrate Eid without burdensome price pressures.
The cheap market held in various locations in the Papua Province region presents a number of staple commodities with more affordable prices. In that activity, several products such as rice, sugar, cooking oil, and other daily necessities are offered with discounts ranging from Rp2,000 to Rp10,000 per package. This program not only aims to suppress the soaring price spike, but also ensures that all levels of society can meet their needs at a fair price.
Acting Head of Papua Trade and Distribution, Hartati Iwanggin, explained,
“We are trying to suppress the price increase that occurs before the Eid momentum, so that people can obtain basic necessities without having to feel burdened economically. Through this cheap market, we hope to have a direct positive impact on the community.”
This cheap market activity is also intended to create price transparency and encourage fairness in the market. In addition, this initiative becomes an opportunity for local governments to cooperate with local traders, so that they can also adjust their pricing strategies that are more competitive and oriented towards the interests of the community.
The enthusiasm of the community was clearly seen in the response to this program. A Jayapura resident revealed,
“I feel very helped by this cheap market. The more stable and affordable price makes us not worried about meeting our daily needs, especially in the midst of an uncertain economic situation.”
Local traders who participated in the cheap market also welcomed the government’s initiative. They stated that this program not only provides more friendly price certainty for consumers, but also helps them in increasing sales volume sustainably.
The Papua Provincial Government through this program hopes to create a healthy and just market condition, so that people can celebrate Eid more calmly and happily. With the existence of a cheap market, the government is committed to continue to monitor and adjust policies to bring price stability in the midst of global economic dynamics.
Through proactive steps like this, Papua Province shows its role in prioritizing the welfare of the people and creating a conducive economic environment. The cheap market initiative ahead of Eid is expected to be an example of a policy that provides direct benefits to the community, as well as increasing public trust in the government’s efforts in managing the regional economy.
