Implementation of the National People’s School Program to Adopt a Boarding System

Boven Digoel — Although it has not yet been implemented in Boven Digoel Regency, once the National People’s School Program is launched in the region, its implementation is expected to adopt a boarding school system.

Acting Head of the Social Affairs Office of Boven Digoel Regency, Jeffri Nirahua, explained that the local government must prepare a well-structured plan to ensure the program can run effectively and sustainably.

“To make this program work effectively, proper planning is essential. The success of this program will largely depend on the readiness of teaching personnel as well as supporting facilities and infrastructure, such as schools and dormitories,” said Jeffri Nirahua on Tuesday (October 7, 2025).

He emphasized that infrastructure readiness and human resources are key factors in ensuring the success of the People’s School Program. This is because the implementation requires substantial budget support, given that all educational expenses for the students will be covered by the state.

“If I’m not mistaken, the budget allocation per student per year is around IDR 40 million. They will study, eat, and live in dormitories. So, this also requires commitment from parents,” he explained.

Jeffri added that the implementation of the People’s School Program will go through several stages before it can be fully realized. He urged the people of Boven Digoel to remain patient while waiting for the process to progress, particularly until the inauguration of the elected regional head, so that the local government can report the program’s readiness and development to the central government.
