Jayapura – Ahead of the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia’s independence, the Barisan Merah Putih (BMP) is calling on all segments of society to strengthen unity, maintain security stability, and reject any form of anarchy that could disrupt public activities and the smooth progress of development in Papua.
A safe and conducive environment is considered a crucial foundation for sustained development, economic growth, and a peaceful society. Therefore, all parties are encouraged to prioritize a spirit of brotherhood and nationalism as the nation welcomes the month of independence.
Yeri Stenli Hamadi, Chairman of the BMP Papua Chapter, stated that the younger generation plays a vital role in upholding national unity and giving meaning to independence through constructive contributions.
“The baton of future leadership lies in the hands of the youth. Therefore, channel this youthful spirit into positive and beneficial endeavors—actions that do not harm oneself or others—for the sake of a brighter future for the nation,” asserted Yeri Stenli Hamadi.
According to him, the BMP serves as a platform for the youth to strengthen their patriotism and build synergy with the local government, the military (TNI), and the police (Polri) in safeguarding the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) and supporting development efforts.
“We are here as a driving force that embraces all young people, encouraging them to remain united, support one another, and make the spirit of nationalism the foundation of every step we take,” added Yeri Stenli Hamadi.
Meanwhile, the BMP also condemned the acts of anarchy that occurred in Yahukimo Regency, Highland Papua. Such actions are deemed detrimental to the community and have the potential to hinder development and economic activities.
Max Ohee, Chairman of the BMP Central Executive Board, expressed concern regarding the incident affecting civilians and voiced support for law enforcement action against the perpetrators. “We are deeply concerned about the incident allegedly perpetrated by the KNPB against civilians in Yahukimo Regency; therefore, we are holding a peaceful demonstration today to urge security forces to take firm action against the perpetrators,” said Max Ohee.
“We call upon all the people of Papua to help maintain a conducive security environment during this month of Indonesia’s independence,” added Max Ohee.
BMP Secretary-General Ali Kabiyai emphasized that security is a fundamental prerequisite for development, investment, and economic activities to proceed optimally.
“If conditions in Papua remain safe and conducive, economic activities, investment, and development will progress better, leading to greater prosperity for the community,” asserted Ali Kabiyai.
A similar sentiment was expressed by Frank R. Tjoe, Coordinator of the Tabi Indigenous Youth of Jayapura City, who urged all parties to keep Papua peaceful and avoid all forms of violence.
“Papua is the Land of the Gospel, so we must preserve peace in the Land of Papua,” said Frank R. Tjoe.
“All parties must work together to keep Papua safe and peaceful so that there are no further casualties—whether among civilians, the TNI, or the National Police,” concluded Frank R. Tjoe.
