Askara – Tabi traditional leader and Papuan community leader, Hironimus Taime, called on all elements of society to build collective awareness to end the ideological conflict in Papua to create a safe, peaceful, and conducive environment for development.
According to Hironimus, security is a primary prerequisite for realizing a developed and prosperous Papua. He expressed his appreciation to the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) for carrying out their duties to maintain defense, security, and public order, as mandated by the constitution.
“Bravo, TNI-Polri, safeguard Papua so that the people are safe and peaceful, and to build a radiant Papua,” said Hironimus Taime in his statement on Saturday (July 18, 2026).
He explained that the TNI’s role as a tool of national defense and the Polri’s role as maintainers of security and public order are stipulated in the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, specifically Article 30 paragraphs (3) and (4).
On the other hand, Hironimus reminded that the state also has a constitutional obligation to recognize and respect indigenous legal communities and their traditional rights, as stipulated in Article 18B paragraph (2) of the 1945 Constitution.
Therefore, he urged all people, especially Papuans, to refrain from becoming trapped in armed conflicts that could potentially result in loss of life.
“There must be a collective awareness to end the ideological conflict in Papua. Papua must be safe, peaceful, and advanced by upholding the dignity and worth of human beings, which belong to the Creator,” he emphasized.
Hironimus hopes that all stakeholders, including traditional leaders, religious leaders, the government, security forces, and the community, can continue to strengthen dialogue and a spirit of unity to realize a peaceful, just, and prosperous Papua for all.
