Merauke’s National Strategic Project (PSN) Projected to Absorb Thousands of Workers, Indigenous Papuans a Priority

Merauke – The National Strategic Project (PSN) in Merauke Regency, South Papua, is projected to absorb thousands of workers, with Indigenous Papuans (OAP) being the top priority in the recruitment process.

The South Papua Provincial Government stated that the project’s implementation is expected to not only boost regional economic growth but also open up broader job opportunities for the local community, particularly Indigenous Papuans.

South Papua Governor Apolo Safanpo emphasized that the regional government continues to coordinate with implementing companies to ensure that workforce needs are met, prioritizing local residents with the required competencies.

“The existence of this national strategic project must provide tangible benefits to the people of South Papua, primarily through job creation and improving community welfare,” he said.

According to him, the regional government is also encouraging increased human resource capacity through training and skills development so that the local workforce is able to meet the needs of the growing industry in the region.

The PSN in Merauke is estimated to absorb up to 15,000 workers when the project enters its full operational phase. Therefore, synergy between the government, companies, and the community is considered crucial to ensure that the benefits of investment are felt equally.

In addition to creating jobs, the project is expected to have a multiplier effect on the regional economy through the growth of supporting business sectors, increased trade activity, and infrastructure development.

The South Papua Provincial Government confirmed that it will continue to monitor the project’s implementation to ensure that the commitment to empowering local communities, particularly Indigenous Papuans, is carried out in accordance with applicable regulations.
