Intan Jaya, Central Papua – Personnel from Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2026 have detained a 25-year-old man identified by the initials PP, also known as P, on suspicion of links to an armed criminal group operating in Intan Jaya Regency, Central Papua. Authorities also seized a mobile phone as evidence during the operation.
Speaking on Thursday (June 25), Head Of Public Relation of Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2026, Cheif Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., confirmed the detention.
“PP was apprehended by a joint team from Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2026 on Wednesday (June 24) at approximately 2:00 p.m. local time in Bajemba Village, Sugapa District, Intan Jaya Regency. Following the arrest, he was taken to the Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2026 post for questioning and further investigation,” Yusuf said.
According to investigators, the detention forms part of an ongoing investigation related to Police Report No. LP/A/01/I/2024/SPKT/RES. INTAN JAYA concerning the January 19, 2024, attack on a security post in Intan Jaya that resulted in the death of Police First Brigadier (Posthumous) Alvando Steve Karamoi.
Yusuf stated that investigators are also examining information regarding the suspect’s alleged involvement in several other security incidents that occurred in Intan Jaya during 2026.
“Based on information gathered during the investigation, detectives are examining the suspect’s alleged connection to several security disturbances in Intan Jaya. However, all findings remain under investigation as authorities continue collecting evidence and verifying the legal facts in accordance with Indonesian law,” he said.
The suspect is currently under investigation for alleged violations of several provisions of Indonesia’s Criminal Code (Law No. 1 of 2023) relating to murder and premeditated murder. Authorities emphasized that the application of the relevant criminal provisions remains subject to the outcome of the ongoing legal process and the availability of sufficient lawful evidence.
The Head of Peace Operation Cartenz 2026, Inspector General of Police Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., said the operation reflects the task force’s commitment to enforcing the law against individuals suspected of involvement in armed violence in Papua.
“Every piece of information obtained in the field will be followed up through a professional investigation conducted in accordance with legal procedures. We remain committed to uncovering criminal acts that result in loss of life or threaten public security and stability,” he said.
He added that Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2026 would continue to prioritize professional, measured, and law-based law enforcement throughout its operations.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Head of Peace Operation Cartenz 2026, Cheif Commissioner of Police Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., said investigators are continuing to develop the case by examining evidence and gathering additional information.
“The investigation remains ongoing, and officers continue to follow up on every lead obtained during the investigation. The entire process is being carried out professionally to ensure that all available evidence is properly assessed and to determine whether there are connections with other individuals,” he said.
Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2026 stated that the investigation remains active as authorities continue collecting witness statements, physical evidence, and other information required for the legal process.
The task force also called on members of the public to help maintain public security and order while supporting law enforcement efforts by providing information that may assist investigators in solving criminal cases in Central Papua.
