From MSMEs to Human Capital, Central Papua Prepares for Sustainable Economic Leap

Nabire – The Central Papua Provincial Government has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering stronger, more transparent, and inclusive regional economic growth through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bank BNI, Bank Mandiri, and Bank BRI. The agreement was signed at the Governor’s Office in Nabire on Saturday (April 18, 2026).

The collaboration with the three state-owned banks is seen as a strategic move to accelerate economic development while ensuring it remains transparent and inclusive for all segments of society in Central Papua. The provincial government believes the partnership will deliver tangible improvements to public welfare.

Central Papua Governor Meki Nawipa, S.H., said the initiative is aimed at optimizing regional financial management to make it more effective and directly beneficial to the public.

“We are opening the widest possible room for collaboration with banking institutions that can provide real benefits and contribute to the development of Central Papua,” Nawipa said.

The cooperation also forms part of broader efforts to evaluate and improve public service performance, ensuring that the presence of the banking sector delivers meaningful impact down to the grassroots level.

Key components of the agreement highlight an inclusive development agenda, including efforts to optimize regional revenue to enhance the long-term value of public finances.

The partnership also places strong emphasis on empowering micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), particularly Papuan women entrepreneurs, through the distribution of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs and People’s Business Credit (KUR) for indigenous Papuan business actors. These measures are expected to strengthen the local economy while expanding business opportunities.

In addition, the development of local human resources is a top priority. By supporting the recruitment of indigenous Papuans in the banking sector, the initiative aims to nurture future leaders from within the region who understand local needs.

Expanding access to banking services in remote areas is another key focus, enabling communities to conduct transactions more easily and access financial services more equitably.

“We are seeking partners who can deliver the best outcomes for both the regional government and the community. If this cooperation proves mutually beneficial, it will become a long-term partnership for the progress of Central Papua,” he added.

Through this synergy, Central Papua is positioning itself for a more inclusive, competitive, and sustainable economic future that empowers all segments of society.
