Lapago Customary Leader Urges Papuans to Safeguard Peace After Repeat Election

Jayapura — The Lapago customary leader of Jayapura Regency, Agus Rawa Kogoya, has called on all Papuans to maintain public order and security following the repeat gubernatorial election (PSU) in Papua. He emphasized that whoever is ultimately elected should be regarded as the best choice for the people and accepted with sincerity.

“Whoever is chosen, that is the best for us. Let us preserve unity, brotherhood, harmony, and mutual respect,” Agus Rawa Kogoya stated on Sunday (August 17, 2025).

Agus underlined that the people of Papua must not be divided by political differences. Instead, he urged citizens to prioritize solidarity in order to uphold peace across the land.

“This election is only one step in the democratic journey. What matters most is that we remain united, supportive, and harmonious for the sake of our shared prosperity,” he added.

He also reminded the public that maintaining stability and security is a collective duty, not the sole responsibility of the authorities. With a conducive environment, he said, Papua’s development can move forward more effectively.
