Intan Jaya, Central Papua —
A civilian named Joni Hendra was shot and killed by a member of an Armed Criminal Group (KKB) at a kiosk in Wandoga Village, Sugapa District, Intan Jaya Regency, on Friday, July 25, 2025, at approximately 1:40 PM WIT. The assailant, identified as Yonial Kobogah — a member of the KKB faction led by Apen Kobogau — immediately fled the scene. The Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force quickly launched a rapid response and initiated a pursuit of the suspect.
The incident occurred while the victim was serving a customer at his betel nut stall. Without warning, the perpetrator approached the kiosk from a distance of about seven meters and fired a short-barreled firearm at the victim. After carrying out the attack, the shooter escaped into the hills above Wandoga Village.
The victim was rushed to Bilorai Community Health Center at around 1:45 PM WIT. However, he succumbed to his injuries due to the severity of the gunshot wounds. Just fifteen minutes after the shooting — at 1:55 PM WIT — the Cartenz Task Force arrived at the scene to secure the area and begin the manhunt.
The perpetrator, Yonial Kobogah, is a known member of the KKB led by Apen Kobogau, who is also strongly suspected of involvement in a previous shooting at Bilorai Airport in Sugapa.
Head of the Cartenz Peace Operation, Brigadier General Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., accompanied by Deputy Commander Kombes Pol. Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., condemned the violent act and reaffirmed their commitment to pursue those responsible for attacks on civilians.
“We strongly condemn this shooting. Our task force has acted swiftly and is currently in pursuit of the perpetrator. We will not tolerate any armed groups that threaten the security and peace of the people in Papua,” asserted Brig. Gen. Faizal.
Meanwhile, Head of Public Relations for the Cartenz Peace Operation, Kombes Pol. Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., urged the public to remain calm and not to be provoked by acts of terror perpetrated by the KKB.
“We call on the community to stay calm and to support law enforcement by providing any information about the perpetrator’s whereabouts. The safety of our citizens remains our top priority,” said Kombes Yusuf.
This incident adds to the growing list of violent acts committed by separatist armed groups in Papua. The Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force remains committed to ensuring public safety and enforcing the law against all perpetrators of armed violence.
