Wamena Ahead of Eid al-Adha 1446 Hijriah, the Government of the Papua Mountains Province began to distribute sacrificial animal assistance from the President of the Republic of Indonesia to eight districts in the region. The handover of aid was carried out symbolically by the Governor of Papua Pegunungan, in Wamena, to the representatives of the Islamic Day Committee (PHBI).
This sacrificial animal assistance is a form of central government’s attention to Muslims in the Papua Mountains, as well as part of the effort to support the independence of local farmers and breeders. The Governor of Papua Pegunungan said that the distribution of sacrificial animals is not only oriented towards Eid al-Adha worship, but also aims to spur the increase in the productivity of the livestock sector in the region.
“This assistance is a manifestation of the President’s attention to the mountainous Papuan people, especially local farmers and breeders. We hope that in the future a program like this can encourage an increase in livestock production in the region,” said the Governor in his speech.
However, the Governor also admitted that there are a number of obstacles in the distribution of aid, one of which is the limitation of land transportation infrastructure. Currently, most of the logistics access to the district area in the Papua Mountains is still very dependent on the mode of air transportation.
“Dependence on airplanes is still our main challenge. Therefore, we ask for prayers and support so that in this leadership period, inter-district road connectivity can be realized soon,” he continued.
The provincial government also hopes that in the future, in addition to sacrificial animals, there will be further support in the form of livestock-based economic empowerment programs for rural communities. The distribution of sacrificial animals this year is expected to provide spiritual and social benefits for people in areas that still have limited access and facilities.
This activity is also a momentum to strengthen brotherhood and the spirit of sharing in the midst of the diversity of the mountainous Papuan people.
