South Papua is Considered the Fastest in Government Infrastructure Progress in DOB Papua

Merauke, South Papua— South Papua Province is considered as the fastest new autonomous region (DOB) in realizing the acceleration of government infrastructure development compared to the other three new provinces in Papua. This assessment was delivered directly by the Member of Commission II of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia, Indrajaya, during the visit of the Working Committee (Panja) for the Evaluation of the New Autonomous Region to South Papua Province.

The visit aims to see directly the development of the implementation of Law Number 14 of 2022 concerning the Establishment of the South Papua Province. In the field evaluation conducted, Indrajaya stated that South Papua showed a strong commitment in building a solid government structure and its supporting facilities.

“Of all DOB in Papua, the progress of government infrastructure development in South Papua is among the fastest. This shows the seriousness of the local government in realizing effective public services,” said Indrajaya in his statement to the media, Friday (5/17/2025).

He added that the acceleration of development is not only focused on the physical of government office buildings, but also on the aspects of administrative services and coordination between institutions that are increasingly organized. According to him, this is a good early indicator for South Papua to catch up with backwardness and encourage regional growth.

Furthermore, Indrajaya reminded the importance of human resource development (SDM) to be in line with infrastructure progress. He hopes that the South Papua Provincial Government can balance physical development with increasing the capacity of the state and community’s civil apparatus.

“Infrastructure development is indeed important, but human development is much more important. South Papua must prepare a generation that is ready to lead and manage their own region sustainably,” he said.

In the visit, Panja also absorbed the aspirations of the provincial government, community leaders, and local stakeholders to ensure the implementation of the DOB policy runs according to the expectations and needs of the community.

With the spirit of this development acceleration, South Papua Province is expected to be a successful DOB pilot, both in governance and in inclusive and competitive public services.
