Ali Kabiay Emphasizes: December 1st Is Not the Anniversary of Armed Criminal Groups

NABIRE – Ali Kabiay, the Chairman of the Saireri Indigenous Youth of Nabire, has issued a strong clarification regarding claims circulating that December 1st is the anniversary of Armed Criminal Groups (ACGs), commonly referred to as the Free Papua Movement (OPM). In his statement, quoted by Tribun-Papua.com, Ali stressed that there is no connection between this date and the commemoration of separatist groups involved in violent acts in Papua.

Ali urged the people of Papua not to be swayed by false information. “We must not allow ourselves to be provoked by fake news that could disrupt the peace and stability of our communities. December 1st should be a day for positive reflection, not a celebration for groups that challenge the sovereignty of our nation,” Ali said on Saturday (November 30, 2024).

Ali further highlighted that December 1st, 2024, coincides with Sunday, which marks the beginning of the Christmas celebrations in Papua. Additionally, December 1st is observed globally as World AIDS Day, an important occasion to raise awareness about the dangers of HIV/AIDS.

“As a caring society, let us work together to maintain peace and stability in Papua, especially as we enter the Christmas season,” Ali added.
