Police and TNI Take Firm Steps in Handling Social Conflict in Kenyam, Nduga

Jayapura – Nduga Police took decisive steps in handling the social conflict that occurred on Friday (12/04) by seizing weapons.

Nduga Police Chief, AKBP V.J. Parapaga, S.I.K, revealed that on Saturday (13/04), they successfully confiscated a number of weapons from the Lenanus Wandikbo and Tarni Wandikbo groups in Kenyam city, Nduga Regency.

“In this operation, Nduga Police personnel were supported by TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces) units and the Peace Task Force Cartenz 2024. The seized items included 99 bows, 802 arrows, 5 machetes, 3 air rifles, 1 air pump, 13 makeshift shields, and 1 bag of air rifle ammunition,” he said.

The Police Chief also explained that the conflict between the two groups was actually considered resolved on April 6, marked by the signing of a declaration letter and a peace agreement. However, until now, the group led by Tarni Wandikbo has not signed the peace agreement.

“Meanwhile, the security situation around Kenyam is reported to be under control, with no reported casualties. However, further investigation is ongoing to ensure there are no injuries in the incident,” he added.

The social conflict in Nduga poses a serious challenge to security and stability in the region. The seizure of weapons is expected to reduce the potential for conflict and restore peace in the area.
