Thousands of joint Indonesian National Police forces have been put on guard for security, especially in three vulnerable areas in Papua ahead of July 1, which is claimed to be West Papua Independence Day.
Three areas are vulnerable in Papua, namely Mimika Regency, Intan Jaya Regency, and Nduga Regency. Thousands of personnel are alerted to anticipate the actions of the KKB in the three districts.
For your information, July 1 was claimed as West Papua Independence Day by the Papua KKB starting in 1971. Launching from Wikipedia, at that time Nicolaas Jouwe and two OPM commanders, Seth Jafeth Roemkorem and Jacob Hendrik Prai, declared West Papua independence on July 1, 1971.
But the conflict between Roemkorem and Prai led to the split of the OPM into two factions: PEMKA led by Prai and TPN led by Roemkorem. This split greatly affected the ability of OPM and KKB in Papua as a centralized combat force.
From then on, the Papua KKB terrorist acts were divided into several groups. The Papua KKB terror became more violent in 1976.
Officials of the Freeport Indonesia mining company often receive letters from the Papuan KKB threatens the company and asking for help in plans for a spring uprising.
From July 23 to September 7, 1977, OPM militias carried out their threat to Freeport and cut slurry and fuel pipelines, cut telephone lines and electricity, set fire to a warehouse, and detonated bombs at a number of company facilities.
The Freeport Indonesia mine location (PTFI) (IST) Freeport estimates losses of $ 123,871.23.
In 1982, the OPMRC Revolutionary Council (OPMRC) was established and under the leadership of Moses Werror, the OPMRC tried to gain independence through an international diplomatic campaign.
The OPMRC aims to gain international recognition for West Papua’s independence through international forums such as the United Nations, the Nonaligned Movement, the South Pacific Forum and ASEAN. In 1984, the OPM launched an attack on Jayapura, the provincial capital and a city dominated by non-Melanesian Indonesians.
This attack was immediately suppressed by the Indonesian military with a larger counterinsurgency. On 14 February 1986, Freeport Indonesia received information that the OPM was active again in their area and that a number of Freeport employees were OPM members or sympathizers.
On 18 February, around 22:00 CEST, unknown persons cut slurry and fuel lines with saws, so “a lot of slurry, copper ore, silver, gold, and diesel fuel were wasted.”
In addition, they set fire to the pipeline fence and shot at police who tried to approach the scene. On April 14, 1986, the OPM militia again cuts the pipeline, cut off power lines, damaged the sanitation system, and burned tires.
The engineering crew was attacked by the OPM as it approached the scene, so Freeport was forced to ask for police and military assistance.
In separate incidents in January and August 1996, the OPM arrested a number of Europeans and Indonesians; first from the research group, then from the jungle camp. Two hostages from the first group were killed and the rest were released. Until today the terror of the Papuan KKB from various groups continues.
KKB Papua shoots dead and mutilates civilians
Kapendam XVII/Cenderawasih Kolonel Cpl. Eko Daryanto.
The most recent horrific terror of the Papua KKB is that they shot dead civilians on Friday (5/29/2020). Not only did they shoot dead, the Papua KKB apparently also mutilated the bodies of their victims. it was very barbaric. As is known, a civilian named Yunus Sani was shot dead by a Papua KKB on the Trans Papua Magataga Road (border of Intan Jaya Regency and Paniai Regency).
As reported by Kompas TV in the article ‘KKB Killed Farmers and Mutilated them, the Victim’s Body Piece Found by Father Wrapped in Sacks’
Yunus Sani, a native of Papua who works as a farmer has been the victim of a murder by the Papua KKB from the Free Papua Organization (OPM).
The 40-year-old man was killed in a sadistic way. He was shot, then his body was mutilated and wrapped in a sack. Kapendam XVII Cendrawasih, Colonel Cpl Eko Daryanto called the actions of the Papua KKB very barbaric.
“The Papua OPM KKB seems to have spread the virus to take the lives of indigenous Papuans residing in Papua, this is very barbaric and certainly not true,” said Colonel Cpl Eko Daryanto through his official statement on Saturday (06/06/2020).
Eko explained, the chronology began when Mbegulo Church Pastor, Mr. Niko Wakey was taking his son from Enarotali to Mbegulo Village. While traveling in the Kampung Megataga Wandai District, he heard more or less eight shots.
After the shooting stopped, the KKB Papua descended from Kampung Megataga and immediately approached Mr. Niko Wakey. They conveyed information that had killed Jonah.
Hearing this information, Mr. Niko Wakey immediately sought Yunus’s whereabouts. “The victim Yunus Sani was wrapped in a sack by the Papua OPM KKB,” Eko said.
Eko considered the KKB Papua’s actions to be barbaric. Whatever the reason, the shooting and mutilation of civilians in Papua is not justified.
Not just this time the KKB continues to terrorize. According to Eko’s notes, in the period 21 and 30 May 2020, the Papua KKB had launched its action in Intan Jaya Regency, Papua.
Both actions resulted in two people being killed and one seriously injured. Meanwhile, Wakapendam XVII / Cenderawasih, Lt. Col. Inf Dax Sianturi, said both incidents were carried out by the same group.
From the results of tracking carried out by the authorities, the party that killed was a Papua KKB led by Murib military based in Puncak District. “This is the Murib Military group, they are the Puncak Jaya, Timika and Paniai groups, that they are still one group, that is one lane,” said Dax.
Dax said, the Murib military group was part of the OPM TPN group with its highest leader being Goliath Tabuni. However, under Goliath Tabuni, there was still the figure of Lekagak Telenggen who was appointed as the operation leader.
“That is the leader Goliat Tabuni and the commander of the operation Lekagak Telenggen,” said Dax. He believes, the group acting in Intan Jaya is different from the group that terrorized Tembagapura District, Mimika Regency. Only, they are in a chain of command Lekagak Telenggen.
“This is a different team with the same command, they did not go to Tembagapura,” said Dax. Dax said, the existence of the Papua KKB in Intan Jaya was not to settle, but only crossing areas.
According to him, Murib’s military-led KKB Papua route was Puncak-Intan Jaya-Mimika. Therefore, he believes the group will always move. “We received information if they wanted to make a post in Wandai (Intan Jaya), but I don’t think they will post and remain mobile,” said Dax.
