JAKARTA – Deputy Minister of Human Rights (Wamen HAM) Mugiyanto stated that the case of a pregnant woman who died from being shot while inside her home in Sugapa, Intan Jaya Regency, Central Papua, is being handled comprehensively by the National Police.
According to him, there was a consideration to form an investigation team, but after receiving an explanation from the National Police regarding the handling of the case, the formation of an investigation team was not necessary at this time.
“Actually, we considered forming an investigation team. But the Assistant Operations Officer, Mr. Fadil Imran, has explained that the process is being handled comprehensively, so there is no need to form an investigation team yet. So, it is being handled,” Mugiyanto said, as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 7.
The Ministry of Human Rights held a coordination meeting to strengthen synergy with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) in handling the issues in Papua.
Present at the meeting were the Chief Assistant to the Chief of Police for Operations (Astamaops), Commissioner General Fadil Imran, and the Head of the Indonesian National Armed Forces’ Legal and Human Rights Agency, Rear Admiral Farid Ma’ruf, as well as officials from the Ministry of Human Rights.
Astamaops Polri, Commissioner General Fadil Imran, explained that there was no need to form an additional team, as the handling of the shooting case to find the perpetrator was already well underway.
He stated that the National Police were collaborating with the TNI in the field to enforce the law regarding the case.
“I don’t think there’s a need for an investigation team. So, the Cartens Peace Task Force and the Gakkum Task Force are already working closely in the field to coordinate technical matters to find the suspect,” Fadil said.
In addition to the case of the pregnant woman who was shot, the National Police are also handling the shooting of a pastor and the arson of an Associated Mission Aviation (AMA) plane at Balinggama Pioneer Airport, Yahukimo Regency, which resulted in the death of American pilot Nicholas F. Goselin.
