Quiet Steps in the Stillness of Papua, Police Arrive to Heal

INTAN JAYA – Amid the cold and rugged silence of Papua’s mountains, small smiles appeared as personnel from the 2026 Damai Cartenz Operation walked along narrow footpaths in Sugapa District, Intan Jaya Regency, on Monday (February 9, 2026). They came not only to maintain security, but also to deliver care through mobile health services for local residents.

Led by Team Commander of Belukar 4.0.2 ODC 2026, Briptu Bagas Al-Bayyinah Ajun Saputro, a squad departed in the morning from the Belukar Perpus Post. The route was far from easy—passing a five-way junction, entering forest trails, and finally reaching Bajemba Village. Along the way, security patrols went hand in hand with basic health checks for residents they encountered.

Children, mothers, and elderly residents received simple medical examinations, vitamins, and basic medicines free of charge. The personnel were warmly welcomed, with some villagers immediately approaching as the team arrived at their honai homes.

In an area where access to healthcare is limited and medical facilities are located far away, the activity directly addressed the community’s most essential needs.

Head of the 2026 Damai Cartenz Operation, Brigadier General of Police Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, emphasized that humanitarian efforts are a vital part of maintaining stability in Papua.

“We want the presence of the police to truly be felt by the community. Patrols are not only about security, but also about ensuring that residents feel cared for and supported, especially in basic needs such as healthcare,” he said.

Echoing this sentiment, Deputy Head of the 2026 Damai Cartenz Operation, Senior Commissioner of Police Adarma Sinaga, noted that the footsteps of personnel in remote villages carried a message beyond routine patrol duties.

“When officers come with a human-centered approach, dialogue begins and trust grows. From there, a safe and peaceful environment can develop naturally,” said Adarma.

The activity, which began at 9:00 a.m. local time, concluded with an afternoon consolidation roll call at the Belukar Perpus Post. Throughout the operation, the security situation in Sugapa District remained safe and under control, while daily community activities continued as usual.

Through these dialogic patrols and mobile healthcare services, the 2026 Damai Cartenz Operation once again affirmed that keeping Papua peaceful is achieved not only through security measures, but also through a humanitarian touch that reaches people directly in their communities.
