Dekai — Peaceful Operation Cartenz 2026 ensured that the demonstration by the All-Indonesian Yahukimo Student Front (Front Mahasiswa Yahukimo Sejahtera) held at the Yahukimo Regency Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD) Office in the Papua Mountains on Wednesday (January 21, 2026) proceeded safely and orderly.
The Head of Peaceful Operation Cartenz 2026, Brigadier General Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, emphasized that the presence of security forces was intended to ensure that freedom of expression remained in accordance with the law and did not cause security disturbances.
“Expressing aspirations is a constitutional right of citizens. Our duty is to ensure that the democratic process proceeds safely, orderly, and with dignity,” Faizal said in his statement.
Approximately 500 demonstrators gathered in the Dekai City Clock area before moving towards the Yahukimo Regency DPRD Office. The protesters marched in an orderly manner along several main roads in Dekai City under the escort of joint security forces.
During the demonstration, the protesters expressed their rejection of several policies, including the construction of military posts, investments, national strategic projects, and the planned expansion of a New Autonomous Region (DOB) in Yahukimo Regency. Their aspirations were conveyed through speeches and the submission of a statement of position to the Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD).
Deputy Speaker I of the Yahukimo Regency DPRD, Minggituk Kobak, S.Si., stated that his office accepted all the aspirations expressed and would forward them to the central government in accordance with established procedures.
Security was provided both openly and privately by personnel from the Yahukimo Police, the Mobile Brigade Corps (BKO) of the Papua Regional Police, and the Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force. Throughout the demonstration, the situation was monitored as peaceful and without any disturbances to public order and security.
Yahukimo Police Chief, AKBP Zet Saalino, emphasized that the National Police respect freedom of expression in public and are present to ensure the safety of all parties.
After expressing their aspirations, the protesters dispersed in an orderly manner. The entire series of activities concluded in a safe and conducive atmosphere.
