Member of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), TB Hasanuddin, strongly condemned the brutality carried out by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in Papua. Five civilians in Seradala District, Yahukimo Regency, Papua Mountains, were killed in an attack on Monday (21/9/2025).
“This incident is a crime against humanity that cannot be justified under any circumstances. The victims were innocent civilians who should have been protected,” said the PDIP politician in a press statement in Jakarta, Thursday (25/9/2025).
He urged the TNI–Polri security forces to thoroughly investigate the attack and immediately arrest the perpetrators. He emphasized that the state must be present in Papua in a more comprehensive manner, including through welfare-based approaches for the local communities.
“The state must not lose to acts of violence committed by armed groups. I fully support the government’s efforts to maintain stability and security in Papua,” Hasanuddin said.
Head of the Damai Cartenz Operation, Brigadier General Faizal Ramadhani, stated that the series of KKB attacks took place from 20–21 September 2025 and were led by Elkius Kobak.
“We are conducting an in-depth investigation into the violent incidents that claimed the lives of five civilians. These attacks were led by Elkius Kobak,” Faizal said in a press statement received on Thursday (25/9/2025).
Based on witness accounts, the KKB attacked mining workers, killing them on the spot. The attack took place along the Poros Kampung Bingki Road, Seradala District, on Sunday (20/9/2025).
The following day, the group launched another attack at the Kali Kulum Camp. They used arrows and firearms, causing panic among the miners.
In this continued assault, three more mining workers became victims. “We received information that three more bodies were found as victims of this armed criminal group,” Faizal added.
