Papua Exports 10 Containers of Processed Wood to China, Showing the Progress of the Regional Forestry Industry

Jayapura, — The Papua Provincial Government officially released the export of 10 containers of processed wood to Shanghai, China through Jayapura Port, Tuesday (25/11). This delivery is one of the important achievements for the forestry industry sector in Papua which continues to show positive development in recent years.

Governor of Papua Mathius D. Fakhiri said that the success of this export proves that the local wood processing industry is now increasingly able to meet international market standards, both in terms of quality and production volume.

“This export shows that the wood processing industry in Papua is growing and is able to meet the demand of the international market,” said Governor Mathius. He emphasized that the local government will continue to encourage business actors in the forestry sector to strengthen production quality, increase the involvement of local labor, and ensure forest management is carried out sustainably.

According to him, the export achievement is also a real proof that Papua not only has abundant natural resources, but also has the ability to process them into high value-added products.

The shipment of processed wood to China is estimated to open up new opportunities for wood processing industries and MSMEs in Papua. In addition to increasing export value, this activity is expected to have a direct economic impact on the community, especially in creating jobs in the processing and logistics industry.

The Papua Provincial Government also assesses that the success of this export is an important step towards regional economic diversification, which is not only dependent on the mining sector but also on the sustainable managed forestry industry.

Governor Mathius emphasized that the government will continue to provide regulatory support, business assistance, and export facilitation so that industrial players in Papua are more competitive.

“We want to make sure that wood processing is carried out according to standards, transparent, and provides the greatest benefits for the Papuan people,” he said.

In the future, the Papua Provincial Government targets an increase in the number and types of processed wood products that can be exported, including expanding the market to other countries in Asia.
