Ahead of Christmas and New Year, BI Papua Holds GNPIP with the Theme of “Take Care of Food, Take Care of Papua” to Control Inflation

Jayapura – Ahead of the 2026 Christmas and New Year celebrations, Bank Indonesia (BI) Representative of Papua** is preparing to hold the National Movement for Food Inflation Control (GNPIP) on November 13, 2025 in the courtyard of the Papua Governor’s Office. This activity carries the theme “Take Care of Food, Take Care of Papua”, as a commitment in maintaining the stability of the price of basic ingredients in the Papua region.

The Head Representative of BI Papua, Faturahman, explained that this year’s GNPIP activities are focused on three main commodities that contribute to inflation, namely rice, chili, and onions. The three commodities are considered to have a great influence on the stability of food prices towards the end of the year, especially in the Papua region which has a fairly high distribution challenge.

“Maintaining the availability and affordability of food ahead of Christmas and New Year is our priority. GNPIP is not a ceremonial activity alone, but is part of a sustainable effort to reduce the rate of food inflation in Papua,” said Faturahman in Jayapura.

In this activity, BI Papua in collaboration with the Papua Provincial Government and a number of related agencies will hold a cheap food market, which provides basic ingredients at affordable prices for the community. In addition, around 30 local MSMEs will also participate in displaying regional superior products, ranging from local processed food to Papuan agricultural products.

Faturahman emphasized that GNPIP activities are a form of synergy between the government, the business world, and the community in controlling inflation in an integrated manner. This step is expected to not only maintain price stability, but also strengthen food security and purchasing power of the Papuan people.

“We want to ensure that the public can still meet their basic needs with stable prices, while empowering MSMEs to be part of the solution to maintain inflation,” he added. The implementation of GNPIP Papua 2025 is an important momentum in strengthening inter-agency coordination and increasing public awareness of the importance of controlling food inflation. Through this movement, BI Papua hopes that the balance between food supply and demand can be maintained well, so that “Take Care of Food, Take Care of Papua” really materializes as a spirit with all elements of society.
