Papuan Leader Thaha Al-Hamid: Time for Papua to Unite Behind the New Governor’s Leadership

Jayapura, October 7, 2025 — Founder of the Papua Muslim Council and Chairman of the Advisory Board of Yapis Papua, Thaha Muhammad Al-Hamid, has called on all Papuans to unite and support the leadership of the newly inaugurated Governor Matius Fakhiri and Deputy Governor Aryoko Rumaropen.

In his statement in Jayapura, Thaha emphasized that the conclusion of the long regional election process should serve as a moment of unity for the people of Papua. He noted that over the past two years, society had gone through conflicts, differing opinions, and tensions — but now, Papua finally has a definitive leader.

“Papua is no longer a land without a captain. The leaders are clear; let us take united steps, work hand in hand, and support the governor and deputy governor for the sake of prosperity and peace,” said Thaha.

He also urged the public to move past political divisions following the election.

“There is no longer 01 or 02. We are all now one — the people of Papua — ready to support the leadership for the 2024–2029 or 2025–2030 period,” he asserted.

Concluding his message, Thaha encouraged all Papuans to work sincerely and faithfully for the collective good.

“Let us join hands, unite our hearts, and continue to safeguard peace in this land,” he said.
