Jayapura – Following the completion of the Papua Gubernatorial Re-Election (PSU) in nine regencies and municipalities, Acting Governor of Papua, Agus Fatoni, delivered a message of peace, urging the public to remain calm and uphold unity.
Fatoni emphasized that democracy is not only about casting votes but also about demonstrating maturity in accepting the outcome. He noted that the post-PSU process now lies with the Papua Election Commission (KPU), while legal challenges remain open through the Constitutional Court (MK).
“Whatever the outcome of this PSU process, we must accept it together. This is a democratic process, and we believe that the decision reached is part of God’s will,” Fatoni told reporters on Friday (August 22).
He further affirmed that the provincial government remains committed to ensuring that Papua stays safe, peaceful, and harmonious. For him, security is not solely the responsibility of the authorities but a shared duty of all elements of society.
“The security of this region is a collective responsibility—of the government, security forces, and the people,” he stressed.
Fatoni also called on all parties to refrain from provocative actions and to nurture the spirit of togetherness.
“Let us keep Papua calm, united, and full of tolerance. This is the land we all love,” he concluded.
