Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Ensures Undersea Cable Repair to Restore Communication in South Papua

Jakarta – Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Budi Gunawan affirmed that the government is expediting repairs of the undersea cable that was severed and disrupted communication networks in South Papua.

Budi explained that the disruption has directly affected public services, daily community activities, as well as communication for families and businesses.

“The government is not standing idle. We call on the public to remain calm, patient, and allow the technical team to work optimally so that communication services can return to normal as soon as possible,” said Budi, who is familiarly known as BG, in an official statement in Jakarta on Friday.

He stressed that South Papua is an integral part of Indonesia, and therefore the government is giving full attention to the current situation faced by the people in the region.

BG also urged the public not to be provoked by circulating issues amid the ongoing recovery process. “We must remain united, solid, and not be influenced by misleading information,” he emphasized.

The Coordinating Minister further noted that the government has coordinated with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police (Polri), and local administrations to accelerate the cable repair. Alternative communication channels are also being prepared to ensure that basic community needs can still be met during the restoration process.

“Let us maintain the spirit of togetherness and mutual support until the situation returns to normal,” BG concluded.
