Sarmi – The Sarmi Regency Government officially launched the People’s School (Sekolah Rakyat/SR) program in the region on Friday (August 15). As part of a national strategic initiative, the program’s launch was marked by the allocation of 6 hectares of land for the construction of educational facilities.
Sarmi Regent, Dominggus Catue, stated in his speech that the People’s School is an effort to realize one of the Eight Goals (Asta Cita) of the President and Vice President, particularly the sixth goal—developing from the villages and from the grassroots to promote economic equity and eradicate poverty.
“The People’s School program is designed to break the cycle of poverty through a boarding school education system. Children will receive quality education, skills training, discipline building, and reinforcement of national ideology,” said Dominggus.
The Regent explained that the idea was born from the reality that not all children in Indonesia have adequate access to education. Many face challenges due to economic constraints, isolated geographical locations, and limited educational infrastructure.
This year, around 100 children will participate in the program. They will be equipped with skills and education intended to serve as a foundation for a better future.
“With the People’s School, we want to provide equal opportunities for all children, including those from underdeveloped regions, so they can eventually contribute to the nation’s progress,” he emphasized.
