Papuan Intellectual Urges Candidate Supporters to Remain Calm After Voting

Jayapura – Papuan intellectual Yopi Ingratubun has called on all supporters of gubernatorial candidates to remain calm and maintain a peaceful atmosphere following the Papua gubernatorial election held on Wednesday (Aug. 14, 2025). He urged the public to monitor the vote-counting process at the District Election Committee (PPD) and the General Election Commission (KPU) in an orderly manner.

“I hope all supporters of each candidate will keep Papua calm and preserve our bonds of kinship and community. Let’s guard our votes in an orderly way,” Yopi said.

Yopi emphasized that the voting process is now over, and what is needed at this stage is patience, resilience against provocation, and support for the work of election organizers. He expressed his confidence in the professionalism of the KPU, the Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu), and related authorities.

“We trust that our friends at the KPU and all election officials will carry out their duties professionally. Political choices may differ, but our brotherhood as Papuans must be maintained,” he added.

According to Yopi, whatever the outcome of the election will be part of God’s will and should be accepted with an open heart to keep Papua peaceful.
