JAYAPURA — A call in support of law enforcement efforts in Papua was voiced by prominent religious leader Rev. Dr. Yones Wenda. He expressed his appreciation for the firm measures taken by the Peace Operation Cartenz Task Force in addressing acts of violence perpetrated by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in the region.
In a statement delivered in Jayapura on Friday (July 18, 2025), Rev. Wenda described the presence of the Peace Operation Cartenz Task Force as a tangible manifestation of the state’s commitment to protecting the people of Papua from armed violence. He emphasized that the security forces are not only upholding stability but also providing a sense of safety to citizens who have long lived in fear.
“We deeply value the efforts of the Peace Operation Cartenz Task Force, which consistently enforces the law and creates a sense of security for the Papuan people,” he stated.
Furthermore, he stressed that decisive actions taken against armed groups should not be viewed as acts of oppression, but rather as the government’s duty to safeguard civilians from inhumane violence. He also strongly condemned the brutal actions carried out by KKB, which he said are in stark contrast to the noble values upheld by Papuan society.
Beyond his statement of support, Rev. Yones also called on all sectors of Papuan society—including traditional leaders, youth, and religious figures—to unite in preserving peace and resist provocation from those seeking to divide the nation.
“We all share the responsibility to maintain public order and close off opportunities for anyone trying to disrupt our harmony. Papua is a land of peace, and it is time for us to live side by side without violence,” he affirmed.
He concluded his remarks by urging the public to continue supporting the government’s efforts in building lasting peace in the Land of Papua—for a brighter future for the next generation.
