Puncak Jaya, Central Papua — The Operation Peace Cartenz 2025 Task Force, together with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and Puncak Jaya Police, moved quickly to evacuate the body of a motorcycle taxi driver named Syafaruddin, who was the victim of an assault using sharp weapons in Wanwi District, Puncak Jaya Regency. The incident is strongly suspected to have been carried out by the armed criminal group (KKB) led by Lekagak Telenggen.
The incident began with a report from residents on Saturday (12 July 2025) to the Integrated Police Service Center (SPKT) of Puncak Jaya Police. The joint team immediately launched a search and found the victim at 11:45 WIT in a deceased condition with severe injuries to the head and legs. He was allegedly killed and then dumped into a 500-meter-deep ravine.
The evacuation was dramatic, with personnel from the Operation Peace Cartenz 2025 Task Force, Police, and TNI walking 5 kilometers on foot and descending steep terrain. The body was then transported by motorcycle to the Wanwi District bridge before being taken by ambulance to Mulia Regional Hospital (RSUD Mulia) at 16:30 WIT, arriving at 17:20 WIT for medical examination before being returned to his hometown in Makassar.
Head of Peace Operation Cartenz 2025, Brigadier General of Police Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., accompanied by Deputy Head of Operation, Chief Commissioner of Police Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., expressed deep condolences to the victim’s family.
“This incident shows the importance of the presence of security forces in vulnerable areas like Puncak Jaya. We are committed to taking firm action against the perpetrators and preventing similar incidents. We are currently investigating the suspects,” emphasized Brigadier General of Police Faizal.
Meanwhile, Head of Public Relation of Operation Peace Cartenz 2025, Chief Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., urged the public to remain calm and vigilant.
“We encourage the public to remain calm, stay vigilant, and not hesitate to report any suspicious activity to the security forces,” he said.
This swift response by the joint team of Operation Peace Cartenz 2025 and TNI is a clear demonstration of the state’s commitment to maintaining security and protecting the people in Papua.
