A magnitude 5.6 earthquake shook the Keerom area in Papua on Sunday (July 6, 2025) at approximately 3:21 PM WIB. According to BMKG reports, the epicenter was located 217 kilometers southeast of Keerom, at coordinates 3.95° South Latitude and 142.62° East Longitude. The earthquake’s depth was recorded at 143 kilometers.
The quake was felt quite strongly and occurred at a considerable depth, which is believed to have minimized surface impact. BMKG emphasizes that this information is prepared for quick reporting and may be subject to change as more complete data becomes available.
