Sentani, June 25, 2025 — The Merah Putih community group from Jayapura Regency has expressed full support for the safe, peaceful, and smooth implementation of the repeat election (Pemilihan Suara Ulang or PSU) for the Governor and Vice Governor of Papua Province.
This declaration of support was delivered by Anderson Tokoro, ondofolo (customary chief) of Homfolo Village, Sentani, who also serves as the coordinator of the Merah Putih Group, during a community meeting held in Sentani on Tuesday (June 25). In his statement, the group emphasized its commitment to maintaining public order and not being provoked by those attempting to disrupt the democratic process in Papua.
“We, the Merah Putih community group of Jayapura Regency, fully support all stages and the implementation of the PSU for the Governor and Vice Governor of Papua in a safe, peaceful, and smooth manner,” said the group’s coordinator.
He also stressed the importance of active public involvement in maintaining security and stability throughout the PSU process to ensure the success of the ongoing democratic event. The group urged all members of society not to be influenced by negative narratives that could lead to division.
This support is part of a broader civil society effort to ensure that the constitutional rights of Papuan citizens to elect their regional leaders are upheld without obstruction and in a conducive environment.
Local authorities and security forces are also continuing to call on all layers of society to help preserve peace throughout the revote process. The PSU is being held following a Constitutional Court ruling that ordered a repeat vote in Papua.
