Jakarta, April 26, 2025 – The Ministry of Human Rights has emphasized the importance of upholding universal humanitarian principles and creating space for dialogue as the primary steps to address the refugee situation in Papua.
In an official statement, Director General of Human Rights Services and Compliance, Munafrizal Manan, stressed that what Papua needs today is not the courage to engage in conflict, but the courage to sit together and foster peaceful dialogue. “Experiences from conflicts around the world show that no resolution is possible without a willingness to talk to one another,” said Munafrizal in a written statement received in Jakarta on Saturday (April 26).
As a concrete form of commitment, the Ministry of Human Rights organized a dialogue session with the Deputy Governor of Southwest Papua, the Deputy Regent of Maybrat, and members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) in Sorong, Southwest Papua, on Wednesday (April 23).
Munafrizal reaffirmed the ministry’s dedication to actively participating in reconciliation efforts and building sustainable peace in the Land of Cenderawasih. He also called on all parties to uphold humanitarian values in addressing the ongoing situation in Papua.
