MIMIKA – Ahead of Easter, one of the most meaningful moments for Christians, Mimika youth leader Abd. Rachman Nurcholis—widely known as Arnold Ronsumbre—called on all Papuans to safeguard peace and stability amid ongoing social dynamics. As the Secretary of the Student Council Communication Forum (FKMD) of Mimika Regency, Arnold believes this is the perfect time to strengthen unity and reject all forms of conflict and provocation.
“Easter is not only a religious celebration, but also a moment to cultivate love, brotherhood, and interfaith tolerance. In this meaningful time, let us keep Papua safe and peaceful, as a tribute to the spiritual values we all hold dear,” he said on Saturday (May 19).
Arnold emphasized that peace is not just crucial for worship and celebration, but also serves as the foundation for development in all sectors. Without security and stability, it would be difficult for Papuan communities to progress and benefit from equal development.
He also expressed his gratitude to the security forces, especially the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and National Police (Polri), who are part of the Peace Operation Cartenz. These forces have shown unwavering commitment to maintaining safety in conflict-prone areas. He specifically praised Chief Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo for leading the operation with a humane and effective approach.
“As a young Papuan, I’m proud and thankful for the tireless work of our security forces in protecting the people. We must all support their efforts to build a better Papua,” Arnold stated.
More than just a statement, Arnold hopes this call will be responded to with real action by people from all backgrounds—be it traditional, religious, or among the younger generation. He believes true peace begins with collective awareness and a shared commitment to maintaining harmony across Papua.
“If we all come together with one heart to uphold peace, Papua will not only be blessed, but it can also become a symbol of unity and harmony for all of Indonesia,” he concluded with hope.
