Yahukimo, Highland Papua – The Head of Task Force Operation Peace, Police Brigadier General Rizal Ramadhani, confirmed an attack by an Armed Criminal Group (KKB) targeting a number of illegal gold miners in Yahukimo Regency, Highland Papua Province.
According to Brig. Gen. Rizal, initial information about the incident was obtained from one of the survivors. However, he could not yet confirm the number of fatalities as the joint security forces were still en route to the scene.
“Yes, it’s true (an attack occurred), but the number of casualties has not been confirmed. The team is still on the way to the location, and our preliminary information comes from a surviving witness,” he told reporters.
Earlier, reports circulating on social media claimed that 11 illegal gold miners, all believed to be migrants, were found dead in the forest. The tragic incident occurred in Brupmakot Village, Seradala District, Yahukimo Regency, approximately 52 kilometers from Dekai, the regency’s capital.
The police continue to investigate the incident and are working to evacuate the victims and secure the area.
