Jayawijaya, Papua Highlands—Head of the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) Office for Jayawijaya Regency, Tinus Giban, has called on the community to turn the celebration of Eid al-Fitr 1446 Hijri/2025 CE into an opportunity to strengthen the bonds of interfaith brotherhood. This celebration not only marks the day of triumph for Muslims after a month-long fast but also serves as a chance to nurture unity amidst the diversity of Jayawijaya’s society.
“Muslims celebrate their day of victory after fasting for a month. This moment must be supported by efforts to preserve unity in Jayawijaya Regency,” Tinus stated in Wamena on Monday (March 31).
He emphasized the importance of cultivating interfaith solidarity through positive activities, especially during major occasions like Eid al-Fitr. Tinus also encouraged Christians to join the festivities by visiting their Muslim neighbors, just as Muslims extend their greetings during Christmas celebrations. According to him, such exchanges can strengthen the bonds of brotherhood that have existed for many years.
“The sense of brotherhood that has long been established must be maintained. This harmony symbolizes peace in Papua Highlands,” he added.
Furthermore, Tinus expressed his hope that Jayawijaya Regency could serve as a role model for other regions, particularly in Papua, in demonstrating harmonious interfaith relationships. He commended the peacefulness and mutual respect that have become characteristic of Jayawijaya’s residents, allowing each religion to practice their worship without disruption.
“Jayawijaya should become an example of how every religion can worship freely without interference. The sense of brotherhood here is very strong, and it must be preserved,” Tinus explained.
Additionally, he reminded everyone to uphold public security and order (KAMTIBMAS) to ensure the Eid al-Fitr festivities proceed safely and peacefully. According to him, safety and tranquility are shared responsibilities that must be upheld by all groups.
“Let us collectively create a conducive atmosphere of public security, so that everyone can feel calm and at peace during their celebrations,” he concluded.
The Eid al-Fitr celebration in Jayawijaya is expected to be a valuable opportunity to reinforce the spirit of unity and togetherness amidst diversity, positioning the region as a symbol of peace and harmony.
