Merauke, March 2, 2025 – The South Papua Provincial Government held the handover of the position (Sertijab) of the Governor of South Papua for the 2025-2030 period in an official event that took place at Swiss-Belhotel Merauke. This ceremony became an important milestone in the leadership transition, marking the beginning of the first definitive leadership since South Papua became a new autonomous region.
The signing of the event news was carried out by the Elected Governor Prof. Dr. Ir. Apolo Safanpo, S.T., M.T. and Former Acting Governor of Komjen Pol. Purn Drs. Rudy Sufahriadi This process is followed by the submission of the memorandum of office as an administrative step in ensuring the continuity of a stable government in South Papua.
In his speech, Komjen Pol. Purn Drs. Rudy Sufahriadi said that during his tenure as Acting Governor, he had the main task to supervise the process of establishing South Papua as a new province. “I only carry out the mandate to prepare the South Papua government and deliver Apolo Safanpo as the definitive governor,” he said.
Meanwhile, Governor Apolo Safanpo appreciated the dedication and hard work of Komjen Pol. Purn Drs. Rudy Sufahriadi in building the foundation of the early government in South Papua. “He has contributed greatly in preparing political infrastructure and superstructure as well as government, so that South Papua can operate as a definitive province,” he said.
Now, with the leadership of Governor Apolo Safanpo and Deputy Governor Paskalis Imadawa, South Papua is entering a new chapter as an autonomous region. Both are committed to encouraging equitable development, improving public welfare, and ensuring transparent and professional governance.
The handover of this position is a new beginning for South Papua in realizing the vision of a more advanced, independent, and prosperous development.
