Church Figures Hope New Government Continues to Pay Attention to Papua

Jayapura – Religious figure from the Evangelical Church in Indonesia (GIDI), Pastor Iker Tabuni, welcomed the new government enthusiastically. He hopes that President and Vice President Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka will continue to pay attention to the Land of Papua.

“My prayer is that God will accompany his and his leadership in the next five years. Papua must be better, more advanced and more humane,” he said in a press statement.

Pastor Tabuni emphasized that his words were actually the hope of the Papuan people. He also believes that the President and Vice President really understand the wishes of the people on Indonesia’s easternmost island.

He also believes that President Prabowo will continue the development efforts under President Joko Widodo. “Everyone can see, thousands of kilometers of asphalt roads, fuel prices like the national level, and social attention towards the church is good,” he said.

“We believe it will continue for the next five years,” he said. “Pak Prabowo won absolutely in Papua because the people and people saw the same vision he had for the Papuan people.”

Pastor Tabuni then invited all church administrators in Papua to help the Prabowo-Gibran government, by continuing to carry the message of peace. “Regardless of ethnicity and differences, we must oversee the growth of all fields driven by the government,” he said.
