Timika – Member of the DPR for Papua Province for the Central Papua Electoral District, Thomas Songdegau, S.T. strongly condemned the shootings in Papua which are still continuing to occur. The latest was the shooting of a police officer from the Ilu Police, Puncak Jaya Police, Brigadier Kiki Supriyadi, who was the victim of a shooting carried out by an unknown person last Thursday (26/9). Thomas said that on behalf of the Papua DPR, he strongly condemned the actions taken by the KKB against members serving in Puncak Jaya Regency.
“I, on behalf of other council members, strongly condemn this shooting. “Not once or twice, but too often in the Papua region, especially Puncak Jaya,” emphasized Thomas to Cenderawasih Pos, Saturday (28/9). D
Thomas explained that Papua should have been peaceful after the Susi Air pilot was released several weeks ago by the Nduga KKB led by Egianus Kogoya.
“Why are people peacefully returning the pilot, why are there still others shooting, what are they looking for,” he said in a high voice.
“It’s a shame, as a good citizen, you can’t do anything that’s wrong, let alone take someone’s life away. “We want to take responsibility for the children, wives and families left behind,” he added.
He deeply regrets what happened in Puncak Jaya to the police personnel on duty in Puncak Jaya. He hopes that in the future, similar incidents will not happen again in Papua, especially in the mountainous areas. Without mentioning the name of the group, Thomas emphasized that there is a tendency for certain groups to use these groups so that they intimidate the public and also the security forces.
It is not impossible for the Papuan DPR member to say that this incident will have quite a big impact on the security and distribution of logistics for the 2024 regional elections in these areas.
“So, with incidents like this, members are not afraid to take firm action in the field. “They are tasked with maintaining security but instead they are the victims,” he added.
According to him, the government must also be clear about this. Because an act that takes someone’s life is not an ordinary thing, it is still a heinous act and an extraordinary crime. Not only that, he asked the government to also take steps to protect and restore the families of victims as a result of crimes that have occurred so far.
