Papua Indigenous Council Urges Peaceful Regional Elections in 2024

Jayapura – Max A. Ohee, the Second Deputy Chairperson of the Papuan People’s Assembly (MRP), called on all Papuan citizens to support the upcoming 2024 Regional Elections, ensuring a peaceful and secure process, Friday (13/09/2024).

Max emphasized that the Papuan People’s Assembly has held a plenary session to establish the criteria for selecting indigenous Papuan candidates for governor and vice governor, a crucial requirement for those aiming to run in the upcoming elections.

“Today, we will finalize the decision in a plenary session, and after that, we will submit it to the General Election Commission (KPU). The KPU will then officially announce the candidates for governor and vice governor of Papua Province. We have also conducted factual verification of the four candidates across several regions, whether they are running for governor or vice governor,” he explained.

Max further urged the people of Papua to maintain peace during the elections and not to be influenced by irresponsible groups attempting to disrupt the process.

“This election, our ‘Democratic Celebration,’ is a pivotal moment for the people of Papua to choose a leader who will work with us to build a safe and prosperous Papua,” he concluded.
